13. Q. Why is it not possible to guarantee a full second water seal between an AmerSeal and older transformer connectors?
.
A. The outer diameter of kit housings is larger than that of transformer connectors, so the AmerSeal would have to go from a large to small diameter and make a seal tight enough to be watertight. This was not possible with the properties of the rubber used. Also, in the past manufacturers of transformers, including Amerace, paid little attention to the outside surfaces of their transformer connectors. These outside surfaces typically had protrusions such as parting lines and injection ports (from the molding process), and sometimes raised lettering. These uneven outer surfaces made it impossible for us to design an AmerSeal to be reliably watertight with all existing connectors. Thus our decision to change the shape of our transformer connectors, so that they would work reliably with AmerSeal. While we would have preferred to have AmerSeal fully compatible with existing transformer connectors, we believe that the advantages of AmerSeal easily justify changing the connector shape.
